William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States. He was the last President to have fought in the Civil War, and the 3rd President to be assassinated. McKinley began a long career in politics at the age of just 34 in the House of Representatives. He also served two terms as the Governor of Ohio. A key event in McKinley's Presidency was the Spanish-American War in 1898, which resulted in a resounding American victory and the acquisition of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines from Spain. The United States also acquired Hawaii and the American Samoa during McKinley's Presidency. Shortly after his re-election, McKinley was assassinated while attending the Pan-American Exposition.
The historic Presidential Dollar series began in 2007 with coins for George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. This is the FIRST coin program in U.S. History to honor all of America's Presidents, and it is destined to be the most popular collection in history, even BIGGER and more popular than the State Quarters!
