Andrew Jackson was the 7th President of the United States. He was the military governor of Florida in 1821, and commander of the American forces during the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. He dominated American politics in the 1820's and 1830's with his political ambition and increased political participation by shaping the modern Democratic Party. Known for his toughness, he was nicknamed "Old Hickory."
