John Adams was born on October 30th, 1735 in Braintree (modern-day Quincy), Massachusetts. He graduated from Harvard College in 1755, and began practicing law in Boston three years later. In 1789, he was elected as America's first Vice President, serving two terms under George Washington. In the 1796 election, Adams defeated Thomas Jefferson by just three electoral votes. He was inaugurated as America's second President on March 4th, 1797. Adams was the first President to live in the White House. The most significant political event during his Presidency was avoiding a war with France.
The historic Presidential Dollar series began in 2007 with coins for George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. This is the FIRST coin program in U.S. History to honor all of America's Presidents, and it is destined to be the most popular collection in history, even BIGGER and more popular than the State Quarters!
