The 2003 First Flight Half Dollar completed the series of the First Flight Commemorative Coin Program, which also included a silver dollar and a $10 gold coin. These three coins were the only commemoratives dated 2003, and were only available for sale from August 1st, 2003 until July 31st, 2004. The obverse of the half dollar features the Wright Monument located at Kill Devil Hill near Kitty Hawk, NC. The inscriptions on the coin include "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and the date "2003." The reverse features the Write 1903 Flyer making its historic first powered manned flight.
