In 1988, the Isle of Man introduced the very first Cat coin which featured the Manx Cat. The Cat is now one of the World’s most famous coins and to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of this amazing series, the twenty-fifth coin will again feature the tailless Manx Cat.
The Manx Cat is a breed of domestic cat which originated in the Isle of Man and has a naturally occurring mutation that shortens the tail. Many Manx Cats have a small stub of a tail but the breed is best known as being tailless which is the most distinguishing characteristic of the breed. Manx Cats come in all coat colours and patterns and are said to be social, tame and active.
To celebrate this milestone in the life of the Isle of Man Cat coins a stunning new coin is being issued on behalf of the Isle of Man Government which portrays a Manx Cat with her kitten. To add to the uniqueness of this year’s Cat coin, the 2012 version with also carry a very special double effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II which has been produced to celebrate Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee year.
