1909 was the last year the New Orleans Mint made coins. This 1909 O Mint Barber Half Dollar represents the end of an era, and the end of a mint. The Barber half dollar was introduced in 1892 and was issued until 1915. It is named after it's designer, the Chief Engraver of the US Mint; Charles E. Barber. The obverse design is Liberty with a cap and wreath. This figure was inspired both by classical Greek and Roman models. The reverse a heraldic eagle similar to that featured on the Great Seal of the United States.
