This is for one 1995 Civil War Proof Dollar still in its original government packaging. This is one of the more iconic U.S. issues ever released. In the 1990s the urban sprawl started to encroach on historic Civil War battlefields so congress passed a legislation to raise funds to be used to protect the areas. This was made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Civil War battlefields preservation. It features on the obverse infantryman raising a canteen to the lips of a wounded foe and the reverse depicts a quote from Joshua Chamberlain, a Gettysburg hero: "In Great Deeds Something Abides. On Great Fields Something Stays. Forms Change and Pass; Bodies Disappear; But Spirits Linger to Consecrate Ground for the Visionplace of Souls."
