Franklin Delano Roosevelt, born January 30th, 1882, was the 32nd President of the United States. A Democrat, he was elected four times and served from March 1933 until his death in April of 1945. FDR was a central figure in world events during the mid-20th century, leading the United States during a time of worldwide economic depression and total war. A dominant leader of the Democratic Party, he built a New Deal Coalition that realigned American politics after 1932. Internationally, he worked closely with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin in leading the Allies against Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and Imperial Japan during WWII. Roosevelt dominated the American political scene during the twelve years of his presidency, and his policies and ideas continued to have significant influence for decades.
The historic Presidential Dollar series began in 2007 with coins for George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. This is the FIRST coin program in U.S. History to honor all of America's Presidents, and it is destined to be the most popular collection in history, even BIGGER and more popular than the State Quarters!
