Zachary Taylor was the 12th President of the United States. He was born November 24th, 1784 and died July 9th, 1850. His term was only for 16 months. Before being elected President, Taylor was a Southern slaveholder who opposed the spread of slavery to the territories. He was uninterested in politics, but was recruited by the Whig Party as their nominee in the 1848 Presidential election.
The historic Presidential Dollar series began in 2007 with coins for George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. This is the FIRST coin program in U.S. History to honor all of America's Presidents, and it is destined to be the most popular collection in history, even BIGGER and more popular than the State Quarters!
