James Monroe was born on April 28th, 1758 in Westmoreland County, Virginia - only a few miles away form George Washington's birthplace. Monroe was inaugurated as America's fifth President in 1878. His eight years in office were know as the "Era of Good Feelings," because the nation enjoyed peace and a booming economy. James Monroe retired to his farm in Virginia after his two terms, and died in New York City on July 4th, 1831.
The historic Presidential Dollar series began in 2007 with coins for George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. This is the FIRST coin program in U.S. History to honor all of America's Presidents, and it is destined to be the most popular collection in history, even BIGGER and more popular than the State Quarters!
