Benjamin Franklin was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. A renowned polymath, Franklin was a leading author, printer, political theorist, politician, postmaster, scientist, inventor, civic activist, statesman, and diplomat. Franklin earned the title of "The First American" for his early and indefatigable campaigning for colonial unity; as an author and spokesman in London for several colonies, then as the first United States Ambassador to France, he exemplified the emerging American nation.
In 2006, the celebrate the 300th Anniversary of his birth, the United States Mint authorized the creation of two silver coins: the Ben Franklin "Scientist" Silver Dollar, and the Ben Franklin "Founding Father" Silver Dollar.
The Ben Franklin "Founding Father" Silver Dollar depicts a portrait of Franklin on One side surrounded by the phrase "Be Franklin Tercentenary," while the other depicts an image of a 1776 Continental Currency dollar reminding all of Franklin's participation in the design of early American coinage and currency.
This 2006 Ben Franklin Founding Father Uncirculated Silver Dollar was minted at the Philadelphia Mint with a mintage of 58,000. It will come in its original government packaging.
